Bombardier developed the Global 5500 as the Pearl-engine update to the Global 5000, adding range and improving fuel burn with Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 turbofans. The cabin seats 13 in a typical configuration, up to 16 at maximum density, with the same cross-section as the larger Global family.

Why the Global 5500 Fits Mexico
The 5,900-nautical-mile range puts Mexico City to London within reach with a workable payload in suitable conditions, a trip the Global 5000 cannot complete nonstop. For Mexico-based executives whose travel pattern spans the US and occasional European legs, the 5500 can handle both without changing aircraft type.
From Toluca at 8,460 feet, the Pearl engine efficiency gives the 5500 better departure performance margins than the BR710-powered 5000 on the same conditions. The crew still completes density altitude calculations before any Mexico City trip, but the aircraft has more room in the calculation.
