Shorts 360

The Shorts 360 handles the smallest end of Mexico air freight, moving palletized loads on short regional sectors where volume fills the aircraft before weight does. A boxy, unpressurized turboprop freighter built for exactly that mission.

Short Brothers built the 360 as a stretched regional turboprop with a square-section fuselage, and the freighter versions exploit that geometry. Two Pratt and Whitney PT6A-65 engines, a cruise around 210 knots, and roughly 570 nautical miles of range in the cargo role. Every Shorts 360 we arrange flies with an operator certificated under FAR Part 135, the FAA rules for on-demand, for-hire charter.

Why the Shorts 360 Fits Mexico

The square fuselage is the practical point. A round-section aircraft wastes volume around a standard pallet, and on light, bulky freight between Mexico’s secondary airports that geometry matters more than the weight limit. For fresh produce, mail bags, or light manufactured goods moving between smaller cities, the Shorts 360 loads efficiently where other aircraft do not.

At 570 nautical miles, this is a short-sector aircraft. Mexico domestic runs of a few hundred miles: Guadalajara to a Pacific coast destination, Monterrey to the US border, secondary regional hops that do not justify a jet freighter and cannot wait for surface transport.

Runway requirements are modest, which widens the field options in Mexico beyond the main international airports. Smaller regional fields that a 737 or 757 freighter cannot use are within reach, making the Shorts 360 a useful option for freight going to locations the larger aircraft cannot serve.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Industry hourly rates for the Shorts 360 run $1,800 to $2,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

The Shorts 360 quotes at the lower end of the freighter range, and on a short Mexico regional run for a light, bulky load it is the most economical option on the list.
