The Beechcraft King Air line runs deepest here with the 90, C90GTX, 100, 200, 250, 260, 350 and 360. The Pilatus PC-12 is the most requested single-engine turboprop, joined by the Socata TBM 700 and 850, the Daher TBM 900 and the Beechcraft Denali. The Piaggio Avanti II is the fastest of the group and the Cessna Grand Caravan 208B the most rugged.
When Turbo Props Fit the Mexico Trip
Toluca to Guadalajara at about 275 miles is a natural turboprop leg, as are the regional connections around the Yucatan and the Bajio. Turboprops handle Mexico’s moderate-elevation fields well, and Oaxaca at 4,990 feet with a single 8,040-foot runway is the kind of airport where they are easier to plan than a jet.

Mexico Patterns We Plan Around
Two things shape almost every Mexico charter: lead time and elevation. Landing and customs permits are applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, and the timeline is sometimes set by the local airport authorities. None of that is a reason to worry, but all of it is a reason to book earlier than you would for a domestic US trip. Toluca, the main Mexico City private jet gateway, sits at 8,460 feet, and on a warm afternoon that changes what an aircraft can lift.
On anything under about ninety minutes a turboprop usually arrives within a few minutes of what a light jet would achieve, once taxi and climb are taken into account, at a materially lower rate. Above two hours the jet starts to win the argument.
