Beechcraft, under Raytheon and later Hawker Beechcraft, built the 400A from 1990 through 2003 as the successor to the Mitsubishi Diamond II. Two Pratt and Whitney JT15D-5 turbofans, seven or eight seats, 449 knots cruise and a 45,000-foot ceiling. Baggage volume is 56 cubic feet, which is on the tight side by current light-jet standards. Why the Beechjet 400A Fits Mexico
The 1,500-nautical-mile range fits the Mexico routes this category handles most: Houston to Monterrey is roughly 430 nautical miles, Dallas to Monterrey around 580, and Miami to Cancun comes in close to 750. All three are well inside the envelope with a working load and fuel to spare.
Toluca, which is the private jet gateway for Greater Mexico City, sits at 8,460 feet of elevation. On a warm afternoon the density altitude can push past 11,000 feet, and a Beechjet 400A with a full cabin and full bags from a high-elevation departure should be quoted conservatively. We have the operator run actual performance numbers rather than using the published maximum.
The belted lavatory is the honest limitation to raise before anyone boards. On a one-hour Houston-to-Monterrey leg nobody notices. On a two-and-a-half-hour Miami-to-Cancun run with a full cabin, passengers used to a Citation CJ3 or a Phenom 300 will.
