Why the Learjet 70 Fits Mexico
The winglets and updated engines improve climb and cruise efficiency, which on a fully fueled Mexico departure from an inland US city heading over high terrain is exactly where a light jet works hardest. The Monterrey industrial corridor, the Guadalajara technology hub, and the Mexico City-area gateway at Toluca are all natural fits for a fast six-seat jet from Texas or the US South.
Six seats is the real constraint in the Mexico market. The Learjet 45 and Citation CJ4 carry seven to nine at a similar rate, and if the group is larger than six the conversation moves there. The Learjet 70 is for a small team or a principal with two or three colleagues who want speed above all.
Learjet production ended in 2021, so the 70 and 75 are the last of the line and the fleet is not growing. Short-notice availability on Mexico routes, particularly during peak Cancun season in December, March, and April, is less certain than for a Citation or a Phenom.
