Very Light Jets

Very light jets are the smallest jets in the Mexico charter market, typically four to six seats with two to three hours of range. They earn their place on the short cross-border legs, Houston or San Antonio down to Monterrey, or a Los Cabos to Puerto Vallarta hop, where a jet cabin matters more than a large one.

Typical Aircraft

The Cessna Citation Mustang, Citation M2 and Citation CJ1 make up most of this category, joined by the Embraer Phenom 100, the Eclipse 500 and the single-engine Cirrus Vision Jet. The HondaJet and HondaJet Elite sit at the top of the group on cabin and speed.

When Very Light Jets Fit the Mexico Trip

Houston to Monterrey at roughly 430 miles is the natural very light jet route and the busiest US to Mexico corporate corridor there is. Dallas to Monterrey at about 580 miles also works. What these aircraft do not do well is altitude: Toluca sits at 8,460 feet and its density altitude can pass 11,000 feet on a warm afternoon, so a full-payload departure from the Mexico City gateway usually calls for something larger.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Across the 8 very light jets listed on this page, industry hourly rates run $2,000 to $4,700 per hour as of 7/2026. Each aircraft page carries its own rate. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

Mexico Patterns We Plan Around

Two things shape almost every Mexico charter: lead time and elevation. Landing and customs permits are applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, and the timeline is sometimes set by the local airport authorities. None of that is a reason to worry, but all of it is a reason to book earlier than you would for a domestic US trip. Toluca, the main Mexico City private jet gateway, sits at 8,460 feet, and on a warm afternoon that changes what an aircraft can lift.

Baggage is the first thing to give way in this category. Four passengers with golf bags heading to Los Cabos is a different aircraft from four passengers with carry-ons, and it is better to settle that at quote stage than at the ramp.
