Gulfstream G100 / G150 / Astra

The Gulfstream G100, G150, and IAI Astra SPX are a family of high-speed midsize jets derived from Israeli Aircraft Industries designs, and in the Mexico market they carry the fastest cruise speed in the midsize category. Six to seven seats, 475 knots, and enough range to cover any US-to-Mexico sector from the South and Midwest without a stop.

Israeli Aircraft Industries developed the Astra SPX, which Gulfstream later marketed as the G100 and subsequently replaced with the G150, an updated design. Two Honeywell TFE731 engines on all variants. Six to seven seats, 475 knots, a 45,000-foot ceiling and 2,950 nautical miles of range on the G150. Full specifications for the Gulfstream G100 / G150 / IAI Astra SPX are published by Gulfstream Aerospace.

Why the Gulfstream G100 / G150 / IAI Astra SPX Fits Mexico

Four hundred and seventy-five knots is the headline in the Mexico midsize market. On a Houston-to-Mexico-City sector, or a Dallas-to-Guadalajara run, the G100 or G150 arrives ahead of a Citation Excel or Hawker 750 by a margin the schedule notices. For a corporate team making a tight same-day Monterrey or Guadalajara meeting-and-return, that speed is the specification that matters most.

Nearly 2,950 nautical miles of range on the G150 reaches every Mexico destination from anywhere in the continental United States without a stop. New York to Mexico City via Toluca at approximately 2,100 nautical miles, New York to Los Cabos near 2,700, and Los Angeles to Cancun at roughly 1,800 are all single-leg trips. That reach is unusual for a six-to-seven-seat midsize jet.

Six to seven seats is the cabin limitation relative to other Mexico midsize options. For a small executive team or a group of five or six, this aircraft is an excellent match. For a ten-person group, the Falcon 20 or Hawker 850XP is the more straightforward answer. We raise that at quote stage rather than fitting a large group into a smaller cabin.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
