Cessna Citation Excel / XLS

The Citation Excel and its updated Citation XLS variant are the most widely chartered midsize jets on Mexico routes, offering a stand-up flat-floor cabin, seven to eight seats, and 1,858 nautical miles of range at a rate below most of the aircraft in their category. Mexico Jet Charter puts these aircraft on more midsize Mexico quotes than any other type.

Cessna built the Citation Excel with a new fuselage and Pratt and Whitney PW545 engines on the Citation V wing. The XLS followed with PW545B engines, a revised interior and improved avionics. Seven to eight seats, 441 knots and 1,858 nautical miles of range. Every Cessna Citation Excel / XLS we arrange flies with an operator certificated under FAR Part 135, the FAA rules for on-demand, for-hire charter.

Why the Cessna Citation Excel / XLS Fits Mexico

The flat-floor stand-up cabin is the specification that drives Mexico bookings on this aircraft. Seven or eight passengers on a two-and-a-half-hour run from Houston to Mexico City via Toluca, or a two-hour run from Dallas to Los Cabos, are sitting in a proper midsize cabin rather than a stretched light-jet fuselage. That distinction is felt on the trip even if it is not always named on the quote sheet.

The 1,858-nautical-mile range covers the primary US-to-Mexico corridors from the South and Midwest without a stop. New York to Cancun at roughly 1,600 nautical miles fits with a standard load. New York to Mexico City via Toluca at approximately 2,100 nautical miles pushes past the published range, and that trip is a Hawker 850XP or Legacy 450 conversation instead.

Toluca, the private jet gateway for Greater Mexico City, sits at 8,460 feet and carries real density altitude implications for midsize jet departures with a full load. The Citation Excel and XLS are well-established types and operators have performance data for Toluca specifically. We ask for that data before confirming any full-load Mexico City departure.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
