Mexico faces hurricane exposure on both coasts, and relief charter into the country is usually a response to that. The Pacific and Atlantic seasons both affect Mexico, and a major storm can take a regional airport’s capacity down sharply at exactly the moment demand for it rises. Hurricane Otis, a Category 5 storm, caused severe damage at Acapulco in October 2023 and recovery there has been extended. Acapulco sits in Guerrero, which carries a US State Department Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory, and we set that out plainly to any client considering the routing.
Supplies and Cargo Capacity
Relief movements are often freight rather than passenger trips, and the freighter fleet is a different sourcing exercise from a passenger charter. Cargo into Mexico carries the same permit and customs requirements, so the lead time is driven by the paperwork as much as by the aircraft.
Teams In, Evacuees Out
Where the trip is bringing teams in and taking people out, the cabotage rule matters. A foreign-registered charter aircraft may not pick up new passengers between two Mexican airports; it may only carry out the same passengers it brought in. Planning around that from the start avoids a problem that cannot be solved on the day.

Mexico Patterns We Plan Around
Two things shape almost every Mexico charter regardless of the reason for the trip. The first is lead time. Landing and customs permits are applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, and the timeline is sometimes set by the local airport authorities, so the earlier you book, the more room we have to work with. The second is elevation. Toluca, the main Mexico City private jet gateway, sits at 8,460 feet, and on a warm afternoon its density altitude can pass 11,000 feet, which changes what an aircraft can lift.
