Mexico takes a large share of North American corporate retreats, and Los Cabos, the Riviera Maya and San Miguel de Allende are the destinations we arrange most often. The travel problem is the same each time: a group that needs to arrive together and leave together, on dates that are already fixed.
Sizing the Aircraft to the Group
Retreat parties tend to sit between twelve and forty, which is the range where the answer moves from a heavy jet to a VIP airliner. Past nineteen passengers the conversation is usually about airliner-size aircraft. These trips would no longer fall under FAR Part 135 standards but would possibly operate under FAR Part 121 or foreign equivalent standards. Mexico’s main fields have the runway length for these aircraft.
Splitting Arrivals Across Two Days
Where executives arrive ahead of the wider group, two aircraft on two days is often cheaper than holding one large aircraft idle. We price both shapes so you can decide on cost.
Peak Season on the Coast
Los Cabos peaks from November through April and the Riviera Maya peaks from late December into early January and again at spring break. Retreats scheduled inside those windows need ramp space reserved along with the aircraft, and that is a separate arrangement from the charter itself.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Mexico Patterns We Plan Around
Two things shape almost every Mexico charter regardless of the reason for the trip. The first is lead time. Landing and customs permits are applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule, and the timeline is sometimes set by the local airport authorities, so the earlier you book, the more room we have to work with. The second is elevation. Toluca, the main Mexico City private jet gateway, sits at 8,460 feet, and on a warm afternoon its density altitude can pass 11,000 feet, which changes what an aircraft can lift.
