Choosing a Category for a Mexico Trip
Under about ninety minutes, a turboprop or a piston twin often lands closer to where you are actually going than a jet does, and costs materially less to do it. Between ninety minutes and three hours, light and super light jets do most of the work, which covers Houston to Monterrey, Miami to Cancun and Los Angeles to Los Cabos. Past three hours the cabin starts to matter more than the hourly rate, which is where midsize and heavy aircraft earn their cost. For Europe, Asia and South America, only the long range category goes nonstop.
Group size sets the floor. Nine passengers rules out most light jets on baggage before it rules them out on seats, and past nineteen the conversation moves to VIP airliners. These trips would no longer fall under FAR Part 135 standards but would possibly operate under FAR Part 121 or foreign equivalent standards.

Mexico Patterns We Plan Around
Elevation and permits shape Mexico charter more than anything else. Toluca, the main Mexico City private jet gateway, sits at 8,460 feet with a 14,140-foot runway, and its density altitude can pass 11,000 feet on a warm afternoon, so full-payload departures favor larger aircraft. Felipe Angeles at 7,369 feet is the less congested alternative and has the longest runways in the region at 14,764 feet. Benito Juarez is effectively closed to routine private charter, so we do not plan around it. On the coasts, Cancun and Los Cabos run out of ramp space rather than aircraft over the Christmas and spring break peaks.
